Metropolitan Opera Announces Cast for Bartlett Sher’s Staging of Les Contes d’Hoffmann

The Metropolitan Opera has announced casting for its production of Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann, to be directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher, to run December 3-January 2. James Levine will conduct most performances, with the exception of December 23, 26, and 30, to be conducted by James Keenan

The cast will feature Joseph Calleja in the title role, along with David Asch (La Harpe), Ekaterina Gubanova (Giulietta), Alan Held (Four Villains), Kathleen Kim (Olympia), Kate Lindsey (Nicklausse/The Muse), Anna Netrebko (Antonia), Alan Oke (Four Servants), Dean Peterson (Luther/Crespel), Rodell Rosel (Nathanaël), Mark Schowalter (Spalanzani/Schlémil), Michael Todd Simpson (Hermann), and Wendy White (Antonia’s Mother).

The creative team will feature Michael Yeargan (set), Catherine Zuber (costumes), James F. Ingalls (lighting), and Dou Dou Huang (choreography).

The matinee performance on December 19 will be transmitted worldwide as part of The Met: Live in HD series.
