Jamie Camil, the popular Latin film and recording artist who was to have made his Broadway debut earlier this year in the musical The Mambo Kings, will instead bow on the Main Stem as a cast member of Latinologues. He will join the cast on December 6 and will remain with the show until it closes on December 31. It was originally announced that Camil would begin performances on November 25, but he is still filming the feature I Love Miami.

In Latinologues, performers Eugenio Derbez, Rene Lavan, Shirley Rumierk , and Rick Najera (who is also the show’s creator) take on subjects ranging from beauty pageants to immigration as they both embrace and shatter Latino stereotypes. The production is directed by Cheech Marin. Najera was a writer for the TV shows In Living Color and MAD TV.

Camil has been seen on the Mexican stage in West Side Story, in the films 7 Dias and Zapata, and in the television series Mi Destino Eres Tu and Mujer de Madera. He has recorded numerous albums, including Para Estar Contigo and Una Vez Mas.
