Broadway and West End veteran Jake Broder (Amadeus) is coming to 54 Below on October 22 at 9pm for one performance of his original show, His Royal Hipness Lord Buckley.
Accompanied by a jazz trio led by Mark Hartman and featuring Bradley Russell and Jimmie Young, Broder reincarnates Lord Buckley, a counter-culture icon of the 1940s and '50s, described by The New York Times as "part English royalty, part Dizzy Gillespie." In his performances, Buckley would retell classic tales ranging from the story of Jesus of Nazareth ("The Nazz") to Abraham "Lanky Linc" Lincoln's Gettysburg address in his original "hipsemantic."
Broder reimagines Buckley's signature style, fusing comedy, bebop, and cabaret in a show he has been performing to sold-out houses in London, Los Angeles, and off-Broadway for the past decade. Actor Michael Lanahan will have a featured role in the evening's performance as well.
