Zoe Perry, John Schiappa, and Daniel Stern will join Emmy Award winner Laurie Metcalf in Manhattan Theatre Club's Broadway production of Sharr White's The Other Place, to begin previews at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on December 11 in advance of a January 10 opening. Tony Award-winner Joe Mantello directs the play, which he originally staged Off-Broadway for MCC Theater.
Metcalf, who won an Obie and a Lucille Lortel Award for her performance Off-Broadway, stars as Juliana Smithton, a successful neurologist whose life begins to fall apart after her husband (Stern) files for divorce, her daughter (Perry) elopes with a much older man (Schiappa), and, after catching a glimpse of a woman in a yellow bikini in a crowd of people in business suits, the realization that her own health may be in jeopardy.
The creative team includes Eugene Lee (scenic design), David Zinn (costume design), Justin Townsend (lighting design), Fitz Patton (original music, sound design), and William Cusick (projection design).
Stern is best known for his performances in films like City Slickers, Home Alone, and as the narrator of the TV series The Wonder Years. His stage acting credits include True West, House, Dinner With Friends, and, as a playwright, Barbra's Wedding.
Perry, who happens to be Metcalf's daughter, is making her Broadway debut. She has appeared in Los Angeles productions of The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Peace in Our Time, and The Autumn Garden, as well as the television programs Private Practice, Grey's Anatomy, and Cold Case.
Schiappa appeared in the Off-Broadway production of The Other Place as well as the Broadway productions of Assassins, Take Me Out, Wicked, and Jekyll & Hyde, among many others.
