Tom Hanks to Star in Nora Ephron’s Lucky Guy at Broadway’s Broadhurst

Two-time Academy Award-winner Tom Hanks will make his Broadway debut this March when he stars as tenacious journalist Mike McAlary in Nora Ephron‘s new play Lucky Guy.

George C. Wolfe directs the production, which will begin previews on March 1 at the Broadhurst Theatre in advance of an April 1 opening. Additional casting for the production will be announced in the coming weeks.

Hanks had previously been reported to star in the play, which Ephron was writing at the time of her death this past June. The work follows the rise, fall, and rise of journalist McAlary, who won the Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the Abner Louima case shortly before his death in 1998.

Hanks made his stage debut with Cleveland’s Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival, and performed in New York with the Riverside Shakespeare Company. He has won Academy Awards for his performances in Forrest Gump and Philadelphia, and his many other screen performances include Sleepless in Seattle, Apollo 13, Saving Private Ryan, and Cast Away.

Ephron is the author of the stage plays Imaginary Friends and Love, Loss, and What I Wore, which she co-wrote with her sister, Delia.
