The full cast of the acclaimed La Jolla Playhouse production of Hands on a Hardbody will repeat their performances when the new musical opens on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on Thursday, March 21, 2013. Previews will begin on Saturday, February 23.
Neil Pepe directs the musical, which is inspired by true events and the 1997 documentary by S.R. Bindler. It features a book by Doug Wright, lyrics and music by Amanda Green, music by Trey Anastasio, and musical staging by Sergio Trujillo.
The Broadway production will feature Keith Carradine, Allison Case, Hunter Foster, Jay Armstrong Johnson, David Larsen, Jacob Ming-Trent, Kathleen Elizabeth Monteleone, Mary Gordon Murray, Jim Newman, Connie Ray, Jon Rua, Keala Settle, Dale Soules, Scott Wakefield, and William Youmans.
The design team includes Christine Jones (scenic design), Susan Hilferty (costume design), Kevin Adams (lighting design), Steve Canyon Kennedy (sound design), Trey Anastasio (orchestrations), and Carmel Dean (vocal arrangements/musical direction).
Hands on a Hardbody tells the story of ten economically-strapped strangers who embark on a journey that puts their hearts, minds, and bodies to the test when an auto dealership in Longview, TX launches an endurance contest.
