John Guare, best known for his playwriting, will perform in a dramatic reading of Pablo Picasso’s play Desire Caught by The Tail, directed by Anne Bogart as part of the Guggenheim Museum‘s “Works & Process” series on October 14 and 15 at 8pm.

This rarely seen Surrealist play was first presented as a reading in 1944 – with a cast that included Simone de Beauvoir, Jane-Paul Sartre, Raymond Queneau, Albert Camus and Michael Leiris – and was inspired by the poor living conditions in Paris at the time.

The Guggenheim reading will also feature renowned art-world figures Joan Jonas, Guillermo Kuitca, Diana Picasso, Jane Kaplowitz Rosenblum, Joel Shapiro, and Director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation Richard Armstrong, as well as SITI company regulars G.M. Gianino, Ellen Lauren, Kelly Maurer, and Stephen Webber.
