On Monday, October 18, members of the press got a sneak peek at the St. George’s Society’s benefit reading of Stephen Sondheim’s never-before-staged musical Evening Primrose, which will be presented at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College on Monday October 25. Tony Walton will direct the performance.

The cast will feature Sean Palmer, Jessica Grove, Candice Bergen, John Cunningham, Bill Duell, John Windsor Cunningham, Carmen de Lavallade, Frederic Franklin, and Sondra Lee.

The musical — which was first presented on television in 1967 — will feature orchestrations by Sean Patrick Flahaven, music direction by Mary-Mitchell Campbell, sound design by Bernard Fox, and lighting design by Richard Pilbrow.

Following the presentation of Evening Primrose, there will be a gala dinner in the top of Hearst Tower featuring the talents of Alan Cumming and Jim Dale. The evening will also honor Walton and Harper’s Bazaar Editor-in-Chief Glenda Bailey, and award grants to Christine Jones, Lauren Jennings and Young Playwrights Inc., the charity founded by Sondheim.
