Dublin's Abbey Theater will begin the season with Frank McGuinness' new version of Henrik Ibsen's classic drama John Gabriel Borkman (January 7- February 6)., starring Lindsay Duncan, Fiona Shaw, and Alan Rickman, under the direction of James Macdonald.
Also on the BAM schedule is Belvoir's production of Nikolai Gogol's The Diary of a Madman (February 1- March 12), adapted by David Holman along with director Neil Armfield and Tony Award winner Geoffrey Rush. Rush will also star in the piece, which focuses on a minor civil servant who yearns for a senior official's daughter.
The U.K. company Propeller will return to BAM with its production of Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors (March 16-27), directed by Edward Hall;' Shakespeare's Macbeth, in a Cheek by Jowl production directed by Declan Donnellan (April 5-16); and Sir Derek Jacobi will star in Michael Grandage's production of King Lear (April 28-June 5)
Also on tap are the Canadian Opera Company's production of Igor Stravinsky's The Nightingale and Other Short Fables, directed by Robert Lepage (March 1-6); DanceAfrica 2011 (May 27-29); and Ballet Nacional de Cuba production of La Magia de La Danza (June 8-11).
