Playwright A.R. Gurney and Emmy Award-winning media columnist and reporter Liz Smith will be honored at the Transport Group Theatre Company's annual gala, Gimme a Break, to be held on Monday, December 6 at the Asia Society and Museum. The benefit will raise funds to support the company's ongoing work.

The event will feature cocktails & hors d'oeuvres, a silent auction, and a performance featuring Broadway's top performers telling the stories and singing the songs that made them famous. The lineup of artists appearing will be announced shortly.

Gurney's plays include Scenes from American Life, The Dining Room, The Cocktail Hour, Love Letters, Sylvia, and The Grand Manner, among many others. His newest play, Office Hours, is currently being presented by the Flea Theater.

Smith's work has been syndicated in nearly 70 newspapers throughout the country, and she has been an entertainment reporter for NBC-TV.
