John Douglas Thompson, Matthew Rauch to Perform at Marlowe vs. Shakespeare

Actors John Douglas Thompson and Matthew Rauch will join Columbia professor James Shapiro for The Shakespeare Society’s Marlowe vs. Shakespeare: Rivalry, Imitation, and Influence at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College on November 9 at 7pm. The event is presented in association with Red Bull Theater.

The program will examine the work, legacy and rivalry between two giants of the Elizabethan stage through readings from the works of both playwrights by Thompson and Rauch and commentary by Shakespeare scholar Shapiro.

Douglas is currently starring in the Irish Repertory’s production of The Emperor Jones. Last season, he won an Obie Award for his performance as Othello for Theater for a New Audience. Rauch is currently appearing in MCC Theater’s Still Life.
