The Anarchist Stars Patti LuPone and Debra Winger Meet the Press

Patti LuPone and Debra Winger, stars of the upcoming Broadway production of David Mamet’s The Anarchist met the press Monday, September 10 at their rehearsal studio. The new play, which Mamet also directs, begins previews at the newly refurbished John Golden Theatre on November 13 in advance of a December 2 opening.

Mamet’s two-hander features LuPone as a prisoner who wants out and Winger as the parole advisor who wants to keep her on the inside.

The creative team includes Patrizia Von Brandenstein (set and costumes) and Jeff Croiter (lighting).

LuPone has won Tony Awards for her performances in Evita and Gypsy. Among her other Broadway credits are The Robber Bridegroom, Master Class, The Old Neighborhood, Anything Goes, Sweeney Todd, and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. She most recently played Broadway in the theatrical concert An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin.

Winger’s previous stage credits include How I Learned to Drive and Ivanov at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts and The Exonerated in New York. She is best known for her film work, including her Oscar-nominated performances in An Officer and A Gentleman, Terms of Endearment, and Shadowlands.
