Signature Theatre will present a World of the Play discussion in conjunction with Athol Fugard’s The Train Driver on Saturday, September 15 in the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre Lobby at The Pershing Square Signature Center.

Focusing on post-Apartheid South Africa, the free event, set to take place from 4:30 to 6pm, the panel will be moderated by Brian Phillips of the Journal of Human Rights Practice and feature Albany Law School President and Dean Penelope Andrews, Shared Interest Executive Director Donna Katzin, and NYU Steinhardt School Professor Teboho Moja.

Based on a true story, The Train Driver centers on Roelf (played by Ritchie Coster), a train driver who has spent weeks searching for the identities of a mother and child he unintentionally killed with his train. After a fruitless journey through shanty towns, he encounters an old gravedigger named Simon (played by Leon Addison Brown) who helps the desperate man unburden his conscience.
