Anthony Newley's Final Studio Album, The Last Song, Set for November Release

By New York City

Stage Door Records will release the late Anthony Newley's final studio album, The Last Song, on November 5.

The 15-track disc will be comprised of tracks that Newley recorded in the years just prior to his death such as "My First Love" (from The Roar of the Greasepaint – The Smell of the Crowd), "Love Has the Longest Memory" (from Quilp), and "Love Songs Don't Come Easy Anymore." In addition, the disc will feature duets with Petula Clark, Julie McKenzie, and Marti Webb.

Additional material on the album will include two holiday songs that were to be released in 1997, as well as a quartet of previously unreleased numbers recorded during live performances, including "Beware the Night" from the musical Richard III – Rules OK!.

Performer/director/songwriter Newley received four Tony Award nominations for Stop the World, I Want to Get Off. Among his other credits are such musicals as The Good Old Bad Old Days and the songs for the iconic film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, which were written with Leslie Bricusse.
