Ellen Burstyn will star in David Bar Katz’s The Atmosphere of Memory. As previously reported, Pam Mackinnon will direct the production, which will run October 15-November 13 at the LAByrinth Theater Company’s new home at the Bank Street Theatre, with an opening on October 30.

Burstyn received the Tony Award for Same Time, Next Year and has also appeared on Broadway in 84 Charing Cross Road, Shirley Valentine, and Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All. Most recently, she was seen on stage in London in a revival of The Children’s Hour. She is a six-time Academy Award nominee, and won the Oscar for Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.

Bar Katz’s play centers on a playwright who has written a play about his family life and who finds that his actual mother has been cast to play his mother and that his estranged father remember events differently than they are depicted in the script. Additional casting will be announced shortly.

The creative team will include scenic designer David Gallo, costume designer Emily Rebholz, lighting designer Dans Sheehan, and sound designer Brendan Connelly.
