The musical Avenue Q, which closed on Broadway on September 13, will reopen in an Off-Broadway production at New World Stages on Friday, October 9. The surprise announcement was made at the final performance at the Golden Theatre, where it ran for 22 previews and 2,534 performances. No casting for the Off-Broadway run has been announced.

Directed by Jason Moore, Avenue Q is a musical about 20-somethings who move to the city with big dreams and tiny bank accounts. It features music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, and a book by Jeff Whitty based on an original concept by Lopez and Marx. It originated at the Vineyard Theatre, before moving to Broadway, where it won 2004 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Book of a Musical.
