Kevin Spacey to Star in HBO’s Recount

Tony Award and Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey will play attorney Ron Klain in HBO’s Recount, a drama about the controversial Florida results in the 2000 presidential election, according to Variety.

The telefilm, to air in 2008, will be directed by Jay Roach and feature a teleplay by Danny Strong. It will also star Laura Dern as former Florida secretary of state Katherine Harris, Ed Begley Jr. as attorney David Boies, Denis Leary as Democratic pollster Michael Whoury, John Hurt as Democratic politico Warren Christopher, and Tom Wilkinson as James Baker.

Spacey won the Tony Award as Best Featured Actor in a Play for Lost in Yonkers and received a Best Actor nomination for The Iceman Cometh. His other New York stage credits include Ghosts, Hurlyburly, Long Day’s Journey Into Night, and A Moon for the Misbegotten. He is also the artistic director of The Old Vic, where he is scheduled to star in a revival of David Mamet’s Speed-the-Plow next year.

Spacey has won two Academy Awards for The Usual Suspects and American Beauty. His many other film credits include Pay It Forward, Beyond the Sea, The Shipping News, and Superman Returns. Later this year, he will be seen on the big screen opposite Vince Vaughn in Fred Claus.
