Field, already a two-time Emmy winner, was named Best Lead Actress in a Drama for ABC's Brothers & Sisters, written and created by playwright Jon Robin Baitz. Mirren was named Best Lead Actress in a Movie or Miniseries for the second year in a row; she won this time for PBS' Prime Suspect: The Final Act. Piven received his second consecutive Emmy as Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his work on HBO's Entourage.

One of the evening's biggest winners was NBC's Tony Bennett: An American Classic, which was named Best Comedy, Music or Variety Special. In addition, Bennett won the Emmy for Individual Performance and Rob Marshall won Emmys for his directing and choreography.

As previously reported, CBS' presentation of The 60th Annual Tony Awards was named Outstanding Special Class Program at last week's Creative Arts Emmy Awards. During that ceremony, Emmy Awards were also given to this year's winners of Guest Actor and Actress: Leslie Caron (Law & Order:SVU), John Goodman (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip), Elaine Stritch (30 Rock), and Stanley Tucci (Monk).

Among the ceremony's highlights was a musical salute to the cast of The Sopranos by the national tour cast of Jersey Boys, and a tribute to the 30th Anniversary of Roots by Queen Latifah, which concluded with the appearance of six cast members of the legendary miniseries, including Tony winners Ben Vereen and Leslie Uggams.
