WorkShop Theater Company Announces 2012-2013 Season

WorkShop Theater Company has announced its 2012-2013 season.

The season’s first offering, a Plays-in-Process production, will be Philip Hall’s Life on the Mississippi (September 12-22), a musical adaptation of Mark Twain’s memoir chronicling his youthful quest to become a steamboat pilot, directed by Susanna Frazer. Another Plays-in-Process production, John McKinney’s The Chekhov Dreams (October 11-27), a new romance, will be directed by Leslie Kincaid Burby.

The first main stage performance of the season, Gary Giovannetti’s Tarragona (September 27-October 20), is the story of a frustrated New York office drone, in a romance-free life, who receives an email from a mysterious woman in Spain. Elysa Marden will direct. Then, Thomas Coté will direct artistic Director Scott C. Sickles’ Lightning from Heaven (February 14-March 9), the tale of poet Boris Pasternak, his muse, Olga Ivinskaya, and the government that did not want their story to be told. Finally, Kathy Gail MacGowan will direct The Golden Year (June 6-29), Daniel Damiano’s story about Joe and Jean, who are finally retiring, for richer or poorer and for better or worse.

Additional programming will include staged readings; Cold Snaps 2012, a Winter One-Act Festival of new short plays by WorkShop playwrights; the You Are Here! Festival, and more.
