Andile Gumbi Joins Broadway’s The Lion King as Simba Tonight, August 28

Andile Gumbi will join the Broadway cast of Disney’s The Lion King, at the Minskoff Theatre in the role of Simba, beginning tonight, Tuesday, August 28.

Gumbi has appeared in the London, Sydney, Melbourne, Shanghai, and South Africa productions of the musical, and also serves as the face of The Lion King in the show’s print, television, and billboard advertisements.

The Lion King is adapted from the Disney film of the same name. Director Julie Taymor and designer Michael Curry have created hundreds of masks and puppets for the show, which depict the anthropomorphic animal characters. The Broadway score features Elton John and Tim Rice‘s music from The Lion King animated film along with three new songs by John and Rice.
