Grammy Award winner Roberta Flack received the first-ever Ambassador for the Arts Award Monday, August 1 at the NYC Dance Alliance Foundation’s
Bright Lights! Shining Stars! gala.
The event was co-chaired by Cassandra Seidenfeld Lyster and Robin Cofer. Performers included Lin-Manuel Miranda, Robin de Jesus, Christopher Jackson and additional cast members from In the Heights; Brenda Braxton, Ramona Keller and Deb Lyons who all performed in Broadway’s Smokey Joe’s Café; NYCDA alumnus and Billy Elliot star Tade Biesinger, Tony Award nominee Karine Plantadit, Michael Longoria, Ta’Rea Campbell and Clifton Brown, as well as dance troupes Next StepDance, KJ Dance, and current members of NYCDA.
Guests at the event also included Tony Award winner Adriane Lenox, Broadway veterans Capathia Jenkins and Scott Jovovich, current Miss NY Kaitlin Monte, Food Network Star finalist Chris Nirschel, performer Jeremiah James, choreographer Joe Lanteri, and Ramona and Mario Singer.
