Chamberlain, Engel, Moye, Opel, et al. Set for Drowsy Chaperone Tour

Full casting has been announced for the national tour of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical The Drowsy Chaperone, which will kick off at Toronto’s Elgin Theatre, September 19-October 14. The show will then travel to more than 30 cities across the United States including Cleveland, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, Atlanta, Hartford, Pittsburgh, St. Paul, Houston, and Los Angeles.

Bob Martin, who originated the role of Man in Chair will play the role in Toronto; he will then be succeeded by Jonathan Crombie, who also played the role on Broadway. Georgia Engel will also reprise her role of Mrs. Tottendale.

The cast will also include Cliff Bemis (Mr. Feldzieg), Andrea Chamberlain (Janet Van De Graaff), Robert Dorfman (Underling), Fran Jaye (Trix), Mark Ledbetter (Robert Martin), Marla Mindelle (Kitty), James Moye (Aldolpho), Nancy Opel (The Drowsy Chaperone), Paul Riopelle (Gangster #1), Peter Riopelle (Gangster #2), and Richard Vida (George). Rounding out the cast are Kevin Crewell, Taylor Farrell, Tiffany Haas, Alicia Irving, James Patterson, Chuck Rea, Mason Roberts, and Jennifer Swiderski.

The show features a score by Tony Award winners Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison and a book by Tony Award winners Bob Martin and Don McKellar. As on Broadway, the touring production will be directed by Casey Nicholaw, and the creative team includes David Gallo (sets), Gregg Barnes (costumes), Ken Billington and Brian Monahan (lighting), Acme Sound Partners (sound), Larry Blank (orchestrations), and Phil Reno (musical direction).

The musical, which tells the story of a modern-day musical theater addict known simply as “Man in Chair” who recalls his favorite musical from the 1920s, originated at the Toronto Fringe Festival in 1999, and played the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles prior to its Broadway run.
