Adam Brazier will play Giorgio opposite previously announced stars Ana Gasteyer and Kathy Voytko as Fosca and Clara, respectively, in the Chicago Shakespeare Theater’s production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Passion, to run October 2-November 11 at CST’s Upstairs Theatre. The production will be directed by Gary Griffin, who is currently represented on Broadway and in Chicago by The Color Purple.

The cast will also feature: Larry Adams as Lieutenant Barri, Marlene Flood as Fosca’s Mother, Neil Friedman as Major Rizzolli, Kevin Gudahl as Colonel Ricci, Mike Nussbaum as Doctor Tambouri, James Rank as Lieutenant Torasso, Jeremy Rill as Augenti/Lodovic, Jennie Sophia as Mistress, and Joseph Tokarz as Sergeant Lombardi.

The production will feature sets by Eugene Lee, costumes by Paul Tazewell, lighting design by Paul Miller, sound design by James Savage, and music direction by Rob Berman.

First produced on Broadway in 1994, the show tells the story of Fosca, an ailing and ugly woman whose obsession with Giorgio, an Italian soldier, makes him reconsider his relationship with Clara, his beautiful, married girlfriend. The show won four Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Brazier’s Broadway credits include The Woman in White and Into the Woods, and he has performed frequently in the Shaw and Stratford Festivals.
Gasteyer has starred on Broadway in Wicked and The Threepenny Opera, and is best known for her work on Saturday Night Live. Voytko’s many stage credits include the title roles in The Pirate Queen and Evita.
