Not everyone gets a caricature at Sardi’s while making his or her Broadway debut — but not everyone is Rita Wilson, now starring as Roxie Hart in the incredibly long-running Broadway revival of Chicago. Here’s Wilson on Tuesday afternoon at Sardi’s with her super-famous hubby Tom Hanks for the unveiling of her caricature, which has now been added to the fabled theater restaurant’s collection.
Among the other notables present for the unveiling were Kevin Chamberlin, who’s currently playing Roxie’s hapless spouse Amos Hart in Chicago, with Rob Fisher, the show’s musical director.
On Tuesday night, the Off-Broadway hit I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change celebrated its 10th anniversary with a party at the American Airlines Theatre after the performance at the Westside Theatre. Looking just as happy off-stage as on were cast members Adam Arian, Anne Bobby, Ron Bohmer, and Amy White.
Also on hand for the festivities: I Love You alum Jennifer Simard, who will be playing Rona Lisa Peretti in the upcoming tour of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee…
…fellow alum Danny Burstein, who came by after his performance in The Drowsy Chaperone to join sons Zach and Alex (and wife Rebecca Luker)…
…Barrett Foa, who recently took over the role of Leaf Coneybear in Spelling Bee, with college chum Courtney Balan, understudy for the two female roles in the hit [title of show]…
…and Joe Mandragona, who will play Chad in the national tour of All Shook Up, with Cheyenne Jackson, who originated that role on Broadway.
On Sunday, July 30 at Joe’s Pub, some of Broadway’s best starred in the third in a continuing series of Flopz n’ Cutz benefit concerts, which feature songs from musicals that didn’t quite make it in their original productions along with numbers that were cut from hit shows before they opened. Here’s John Tartaglia — a Tony Award nominee for Avenue Q, now starring in Johnny and the Sprites on the Disney Channel — singing “Right on Time,” cut from The Wedding Singer.
Among the concert’s other highlights: Mary Testa performed a selection from the late Rusty Magee’s musical The Czar of Rock & Roll…
…the lovely Meredith Patterson offered a song from Marilyn: An American Fable…
…Patterson’s handsome husband, Shonn Wiley, sang the gorgeous ballad “Once Upon a Time” from the Charles Strouse-Lee Adams-Mel Brooks flop All American…
…Clarke Thorell performed a number that was cut from the 2004 Off-Broadway musical Lone Star Love, in which he co-starred…
…Marcy Harriell, who appeared in Lennon, sang “Woman is the Nigger of the World” from that ill-fated show…
…Spelling Bee‘s Todd Buonopane gave Debra Monk a run for her money with his hilarious rendition of “Everybody’s Girl” from Kander & Ebb’s Steel Pier…
…and our old friend Kevin Chamberlin recreated a moment from his performance as Horton in Seussical, singing “All Alone in the Universe” with the now post-pubescent Andrew Keenan-Bolger. “Andrew played JoJo in Boston,” Chamberlin explained after the show, “but he was fired before we came to Broadway because his voice changed.”
