Latinologues, an award-winning comedy about life in America, will begin a 12-week engagement at the Helen Hayes Theatre on September 13. The show will officially open on October 13, and run until December 4.

In this collection of monologues, which has been performed around the country, performers Rick Najera (who is also the show’s creator), Eugenio Derbez, Rene Lavan, and Shirley Rumerik will take on everything from beauty pageants to immigration, shattering Latino stereotypes with hilarious results. The production will be directed by Cheech Marin, half of the famed comedy duo Cheech and Chong, and a star of the television series Nash Bridges and Judging Amy. His new film Underclassmen opens next month.

Najera has been a writer for MAD TV and In Living Color. As an actor, he has appeared in the films How the Garcia Girls Spent Their Summer and National Lampoon’s Pledge This!. Derbez is one of the most popular comedians and actors in Mexico. Lavan, who has been named one of People in Espanol‘s “25 Most Beautiful People,” has appeared in the films Christmas with the Kranks, Dirty Dancing, Havana Nights, and the TV series CSI: Miami. Rumerick, the host of WNYC-TV’s Cool in Your Code, is making her Broadway debut in the show.

The Helen Hayes is currently home to Jackie Mason: Freshly Squeezed, which had already announced a closing date of September 4.
