The Metropolitan Room is set to present You Don’t Have to Speak Yiddish to Understand the Truth, an almost all-Yiddish evening of vintage vaudeville, to be presented Wednesday, August 8 at 9:30pm. Sholem Aleichem and Congress for Jewish Culture will benefit.

Master of ceremonies Shane Baker will host the evening of singers, comedians, and novelty performers as they summon up the spirits of legends like Molly Picon, Jenny Goldstein, Jacob Adler, Boris Thomashefsky, and Fanny Brice. The evening’s performers will include singers Daniella Rabbani and Miryem-Khaye Seigel, the comedian Bob Greenberg, the Yiddish tragedian David Mandelbaum, and the Allen Lewis Rickman and Yelena Shmulenson.

Music direction will be by the klezmer phenom Michael Winograd and silent film accompanist Steve Sterner. They will be joined by Patrick Farrell on accordion and Matt Temkin on drums.
