Heidi Armbruster and Aasif Mandvi will head the cast of the New York premiere of Ayad Akhtar’s Disgraced, to be presented by Lincoln Center Theater as part of its LCT3 initiative in the brand new Claire Tow Theater, October 15-November 18, with an opening on October 22. Kimberly Senior will direct.

The play is the story of Amir Kapoor (Mandvi), a successful Pakistani-American lawyer who is rapidly moving up the corporate ladder while distancing himself from his cultural roots. When Amir and his wife Emily (Armbruster), a white artist influenced by Islamic paintings, host a dinner party, what starts out as a friendly conversation escalates into something far more damaging.

The cast will also feature Adam Dannheisser, Omar Maskati, and Karen Pittman.

The production will have sets by Lauren Helpern, costumes by Dane Laffrey, lighting by Tyler Micoleau and sound by Jill BC DuBoff.

Armbruster received a Drama League nomination for Tea and Sympathy, with other stage credits including Time Stands Still, Sea of Tranquility, and most recently, Love Goes to Press.

Mandvi won an Obie for his one-man show, Sakina’s Restaurant. His other stage credits include Oklahoma!, Death Defying Acts, Trudy Blue, Guantanamo: Honor Bound to Defend Freedom, and Einstein’s Gift. He is best known for being the Middle East correspondent on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show With Jon Stewart.
