Arthur Penn, Tony Award Winning Director of The Miracle Worker, Hospitalized

Arthur Penn, who won a Tony Award for his direction of The Miracle Worker on Broadway, is in a New York hospital with pneumonia, according to the Associated Press.

Penn, 86, was to have received an award at the Maine International Film Festival in Waterville on Wednesday, but will now be unable to attend. The AP further reports that Penn’s son, Matthew, has indicated that the director is expected to recover.

Penn’s other Broadway credits include Two for the Seesaw, Toys in the Attic, Fortune’s Fool and both the original production and revival of Larry Gelbart’s Sly Fox. Also prolific in Hollywood, Penn’s movies include The Miracle Worker, Bonnie and Clyde, Alice’s Restaurant, and Little Big Man.
