Rattlestick Playwrights Theater will kick off their 2007-08 season with Adam Rapp’s American Sligo (September 12-October 14, opening September 24). Directed by the playwright, the cast will feature Guy Boyd, Marylouise Burke, Michael Chernus, Megan Mostyn-Brown, Emily Cass McDonnell, Paul Sparks, and Matthew Stadelmann. The play follows a wrestling legend and his extended family on the eve of the muscle man’s final match.

The season will continue with Noah Haidle’s Rag and Bone (November 13-December 16), to be directed by Sam Gold. The play concerns Jeff and George, brothers mourning the death of their mother and struggling to make ends meet at the family ladder store. The store, however, is also a front for the black market sale of human hearts.

Next up will be War (January 29-March 2), which will be presented in collaboration with RiksDrama, the national theater of Sweden. Written and directed by Lars Norén, the play takes place during a year of ethnic cleansing, when a mother and her two daughters struggle only to survive. Norén is the author of approximately fifty plays and is also considered to be Europe’s most produced living playwright.

The season will conclude with David Grimm’s Steve and Idi, to be presented in April or May 2008, with specific dates still to be set. This dark comedy is about a man whose life is already spinning out of control when he is visited by the ghost of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin.
