Kristoffer Diaz Receives Inaugural Gail Merrifield Papp Fellowship

Playwright Kristoffer Diaz has been named as the first recipient of The Public Theater's Gail Merrifield Papp Fellowship.

During the one-year fellowship, The Public will serve as an artistic home for Diaz and will co-commission two plays by the writer with Dallas Theater Center.

Diaz is best known for his play, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, which was a Pulitzer Prize Finalist and received a Lucille Lortel Award, an Obie Award, a Drama Desk nomination, and Equity Jeff Awards. As previously reported, it also recently earned Diaz The New York Times Outstanding Playwright Award. Among his other plays are Welcome to Arroyo's and #therevolution.
