Jennifer Dundas and Darren Pettie Set for Free Taming of the Shrew in Boston

Jennifer Dundas and Darren Pettie will star in the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s free production of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, to be held on the Boston Common, July 22-August 13. The production, to be directed by Steven Maler, will officially open on July 28. It is presented by The Wang Center for the Performing Arts.

The cast also includes Scott Barrow as Lucentio, Nat DeWolf as Tranio, Paul Farwell as Baptista, Angie Jepson as Bianca, Bill Young as Gremio, Remo Airaldi as Hortensio, Larry Coen as Biondello, Antonio Edwards Suarez as Grumio, Richard Snee as Pedant, James Bodge as Vincentio, Jeffrey Kitrosser as Tailor, Alan White as Haberdasher, Paul Melendy as Curtis, Shauna Miles as Widow, David Mitsch as Nathaniel, James Ryen as Philip, Diego Ribeira as Joseph, Ed Hoopman as Nicholas, and Forrest Walter as Peter. Ensemble members include Haley Roth, Bekah Vega, Alex Simoes, Tim Eliot, Carly Assael, Stephanie Brait, and Michael Costello.

The show’s creative team includes John Coyne (sets), Clint E.B. Ramos (costume design), Linda O’Brien (lighting design), and J Hagenbuckle (sound design and original music).

Dundas, who will play Kate, has starred on Broadway in Arcadia, as Laura in The Kennedy Center’s production of The Glass Menagerie, as Phoebe in the New York Shakespeare Festival’s production of As You Like It, and she won an Obie Award for her work in Good as New. Pettie, who will play Petruchio, has starred Off-Broadway in such shows as Spatter Pattern and Dedication, or the Stuff of Dreams.

On Sunday, August 6, The Wang Center will also present Celebrate Shakespeare, a day-long series of workshops, readings, games, and other activities that will conclude with a performance of Taming of the Shrew. Special guests for that event include Tony Award nominee Ty Giordano, who will play Caliban in a scene from The Tempest, and local favorite Will Lyman, who will play Prospero.
