Bay Area Playwrights Festival Selections Announced

The selections for the 28th annual Bay Area Playwrights Festival (BAPF), to be held from July 29 through August 7at San Francisco’s Magic Theatre, have been announced. The winning full-length plays are Mickey Birnbaum’s Bleed Rail, Mike Geither’s Stars Fell All Night, Sarah Hammond’s Green Girl, Brighde Mullins’ Water Stories from the Mojave Desert, Marisela Treviño Orta’s Braided Sorrow, and Peter Sinn Nachtrieb’s Lamb & Jelly. This year’s BAPF commissioned play is Emophiliacs, written by Prince Gomolvilas and featuring the punk rock band Inverness.


The winning BASH! (Bay Area Shorts) plays are Elizabeth Benedict’s Jesus in Las Vegas, Kenyon Brown’s Rearrange/Reinvent/Reconnect,, Richard Talavera’s Ten Shades of Magenta, and Enrique Urueta’s Learn to Be Latina. Honorable mentions were awarded to the following works: Boni Alvarez’s Dallas Non-Stop, Sheila Callaghan’s Dead City, Dan Dietz’s Americamisfit, Caridad Svich’s Wreckage, Deborah Stein’s God Save Gertrude, and Christopher Tong’s The Negligent Son
