PBS will broadcast The Metropolitan Opera‘s production of The Enchanted Island as part of THIRTEEN’s Great Performances at the Met series on Friday, May 18 at 9pm (check local listings). In New York, THIRTEEN will air the program at the same time with an encore presentation Sunday, May 20 at 12:30pm.

The piece combines great music of the Baroque era, including works by Handel, Vivaldi, and Rameau, with an original story by Jeremy Sams that imagines the four young lovers from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream find themselves shipwrecked on Prospero’s island from the Bard’s The Tempest.

The company features Joyce DiDonato as Sycorax; David Daniels as Prospero; Danielle de Niese as Ariel; Luca Pisaroni as Caliban; Lisette Oropesa as Miranda; and Anthony Roth Costanzo as Ferdinand; as well as Layla Claire, Elizabeth DeShong, Paul Appleby, and Elliot Madore as the Midsummer lovers. In addition, Plácido Domingo makes a cameo appearance as Neptune.
