Maurice Sendak Dies at 83

Author, playwright, and designer Maurice Sendak has died at age 83, according to reports.

One of the world's greatest illustrators and authors, Sendak is best known for his seminal children's book, Where the Wild Things Are, which has received both stage and film adaptations. His other works include Really Rosie, In the Night Kitchen, Outside Over There, and Bumble Ardy.

He collaborated with Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner on the one-act play Brundibar, which has been performed at the New Victory Theatre, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and Yale Repertory Theatre.

As a designer, Sendak's credits include the Pacific Northwest Ballet production of The Nutcracker,, Houston Grand Opera's productions of The Magic Flute and Hansel and Gretel, and New York City Opera's production of The Cunning Little Vixen.
