Joel Grey — currently appearing in Broadway’s
Anything Goes and co-directing
The Normal Heart — was one of the honorees at the National Corporate Theatre Fund’s 2011 Chariman’s Awards Gala, held at St. Regis New York on Monday, May 2. Lewis Black hosted the event.
Grey received the 2011 Theater Artist Award at the gala, with other honorees including Charles Dillingham, the Managing Director of Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles, who received the Achievement in Theatre Award, and global financial services company BNY Mellon, which was honored with the Corporate Leadership Award.
Broadway stars Ben Vereen and Stephanie J. Block were among the performers, with additional performances by Ward Billeisen, James Turley, Adam Perry, and Anthony Wayne, with Phil Reno at the piano.
Presenters included Benjamin Moore, Kathleen Marshall, Anika Noni Rose, and Richard Thomas. Among the attendees were Joel’s Anything Goes co-star Colin Donnell and 2011 Tony nominee Andrew Rannells, as well as Michael Ritchie, artistic director of Center Theatre Group.
