The 29th Annual Fred & Adele Astaire Awards were presented in a ceremony held on May 15 at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, hosted by
Bebe Neuwirth and Lee Roy Reams.
Susan Stroman won for her choreography of The Scottsboro Boys, with additional nominees including Rob Ashford, Marguerite Derricks, Kathleen Marshall, Danny Mefford, Jerry Mitchell, Casey Nicholaw, Toby Sedgwick, and Anthony Van Laast.
Sutton Foster won Best Female Dancer on Broadway for Anything Goes, with other nominees including Rachel de Benedet, Jennifer Frankel, J. Elaine Marcos, Patina Miller, Laura Osnes, Angie Schworer, Megan Sikora and Samantha Zack.
Norbert Leo Butz won Best Male Dancer for Catch Me if You Can, with additional nominees including Nick Adams, Colman Domingo, Colin Donnell, Josh Gad, Joshua Henry, Daniel Radcliffe, and Aaron Tveit.
Awards were also presented to Graeme Murphy and Janet Vernon (Excellence in Choreography in Film) for Mao’s Last Dancer; Jacques d’Amboise, who received the Douglas Watt Lifetime Achievement Award; and Corey Snide, who won the first Adele Astaire Scholarship.
Among the presenters and guests were Charlotte d’Amboise, Christopher d’Amboise, Heather Federman, Wendy Federman, Maurice Hines, Bill Irwin, and Joe Lanteri.
