TJ Edward’s Candide, Featuring Montgomery Sutton, to Anchor Gallery Players’ Black Box New Play Festival

The Gallery Players has announced the lineup for its 13th Annual Black Box New Play Festival, to run June 3-27. During the course of the event, 20 new plays will receive their world premieres.

The festival will be anchored by TJ Edwards’ new adaptation of Voltaire’s Candide (June 3-20), to be directed by Neal J. Freeman. The company will feature Montgomery Sutton in the title role, along with Judy Alvarez, Andrew Davies, Amanda McCallum, Kyle Metzger, Kyle Minshew, Len Rella, Emilie Soffe, Minna Taylor, Patrick Toon and Alice Winslow.

In addition to this full-length work, three sets of one-act plays will be presented. Among the works to be presented in the first series, running June 10-13, are Michael Kevin Baldwin’s Will You Sing Me a Lullaby, Erik Christian Hanson’s Al Bashir, Jamie Geradri’s Under the Rug, Joseph Talarico’s A Meeting, David M. Korn’s Addiction Anonymous, David L. Williams’ The Remake, and Corey Pajka’s I Love New York.

The second series of one-acts, to run June 17-20, will include Lindsay Joy Murphy’s Seven Minutes, Lily Rusek’s Winter Flowers, Jeannine Jones’ 15 Miles to the Horizon, Denis Meadows’ Memento Mimi, Joe Lauinger’s Dignity, Corey Pajka’s Karp’s Last Text, Camilla Maxwell’s Love Thy Neighbour, and Maia Akvia’s Me.

The final set of one-acts, which will run June 24-27, includes Nora Vetter’s Piece of Cake, Corey Pajka’s Hot Fudge Sundae, and Philip Gerson’s This Isn’t What It Looks Like.
