The 1920s come roaring back to life in Bullets Over Broadway, opening tonight at the St. James Theatre. Based on the 1994 Woody Allen-Douglas McGrath screenplay of the same name, Bullets Over Broadway features a score that compiles classics of the Great American Songbook from the 1920s and '30s. The cast includes Zach Braff in his Broadway debut, Tony nominee Brooks Ashmanskas (Promises, Promises), three-time Tony nominee Marin Mazzie (Next to Normal), Nick Cordero (Rock of Ages), Vincent Pastore (Chicago), Betsy Wolfe (The Mystery of Edwin Drood), Lenny Wolpe (The Drowsy Chaperone), Heléne Yorke (Grease), and Tony winner Karen Ziemba (Curtains). Four-time Tony winner Susan Stroman (The Producers) directs.

David Shayne (Braff) is a young playwright struggling to bring his play to Broadway. Mobster Nick Valenti (Vincent Pastore) offers to front the money, as long as Shayne casts his girlfriend Olive (Heléne Yorke) in the show. While Olive can't act her way out of a wet paper bag, she comes to rehearsal bearing an unexpected gift in the form of her bodyguard, Cheech (Nick Cordero). Cheech turns out to be the brilliant dramaturg Shayne's overly verbose play desperately needs. He also really knows how to tap-dance.
