Showtime continued its ongoing series of panel discussions about its returning television series at the 92nd Street Y on Monday, April 9, with a talk about the series The Big C.

The event featured series stars Laura Linney (Cathy), Oliver Platt (Paul), John Benjamin Hickey (Sean), and Gabourey Sidibe (Andrea), as well as executive producer Jenny Bicks. Caryn James moderated the discussion.

The group revealed many of the plot details for the third season, which began on April 8, including Cathy’s decision to have an “alter ego” named Alexis; Paul’s blogging career — which includes revealing Cathy’s long-ago affair to their son; Sean’s decision to go on medication and get a job as a janitor at Cathy’s school, and Andrea’s embracing of her African heritage.

It was also revealed that Sean will end up running a gay phone sex line and interact with its owner, played by four-time Tony Award nominee Victor Garber, who was in the audience.

The series will also feature numerous Broadway veterans as guest stars this season, including Alan Alda, Susan Sarandon, Hamish Linklater, Mamie Gummer, Brian d’Arcy James, and Tammy Blanchard.
