BAM to Host Neighborhood Block Party on May 8

The Brooklyn Academy of Music will celebrate the groundbreaking for its new facility — the BAM Richard B. Fisher Building — with a neighborhood block party on Saturday, May 8 from 12 Noon to 4pm on Ashland Place between Lafayette Avenue and Hanson Place.

Performers will include So Percussion, BAM/Restoration DanceAfrica Ensemble, Jamel Gaines Creative Outlet Dance Theater of Brooklyn, DJ collective Melting Pot Global, salsa students from Brooklyn Music School, and youth poets from the BAM Brooklyn Reads program.

The celebration will kick-off with a ‘drumline battle’ between Brooklyn Steppers Marching Band and Soul Tigers. The festivities will also include music, arts & crafts, games, and local food vendors.
