A new production of The Bacchae, starring Tony Award winner Alan Cumming, will play London's Lyric Hammersmith Theatre from September 5 through 22 after debuting in Edinburgh and Glasgow, Scotland.

David Grieg's new translation of Euripides' classic play, directed by John Tiffany, is being presented and performed by the National Theatre of Scotland. The show will play the 2007 Edinburgh International Festival, August 11-18, and the Royal Theatre Glasgow, August 28-September 1.

The Edinburgh Festival, which runs through September 1, will also feature Benjamin Bagby's acclaimed production of Beowulf; Rinde Eckert's Orpheus X, a finalist for this year's Pulitzer Prize; the Wooster Group's production of Francesco Cavalli's opera La Didione; the Mabou Mines' Obie-winning production of Dollhouse, based on Ibsen's A Doll's House; Vienna Schauspielhaus' contemporary take on Montreverdi's opera Poppea; and Optical Identity, a co-production of Scotland's Theatre Cryptic and Shanghai's T'ang Quartet.
