André Braugher, Edie Falco, Linda Lavin, Laurie Metcalf, et al. Receive Lucille Lortel Nominations; Samantha Bee, Zach Braff to Co-Host Awards

Nominations for the 2011 Lucille Lortel Awards, honoring Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway, have been announced. Zach Braff and Samantha Bee will co-host the awards ceremony at NYU Skirball Center, on Sunday, May 1.

Outstanding Musical nominees are Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, featuring music and lyrics by Michael Friedman, book by Alex Timbers; In Transit, with music, lyrics and book by Kristen Anderson-Lopez, James-Allen Ford, Russ Kaplan, Sara Wordsworth; The Burnt Part Boys, featuring music by Chris Miller, lyrics by Nathan Tysen, book by Mariana Elder; The Kid, with music by Andy Monroe, lyrics by Jack Lechner and book by Michael Zam; and We the People: America Rocks!, with Songs by Brad Alexander (music) and Kevin Del Aguila (lyrics), Eli Bolin (music) and Sam Forman (lyrics), Joe Iconis (music and lyrics), Tommy Newman (music and lyrics), Ryan Scott Oliver (music and lyrics), Adam Overett (music and lyrics), Mark Weiner (music) and Erik Weiner and Jordan Allen-Dutton (lyrics).

Nominated in the Outstanding Play category are Lisa Kron’s In the Wake, Jon Robin Baitz’ Other Desert Cities, Rick Elice’s Peter and the Starcatcher, Nick Jones’ The Coward, and Kristoffer Diaz’s The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity.

Competing in the Outstanding Lead Actor category are Desmin Borges, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity; Christian Borle, Peter and the Starcatcher; André Braugher, The Whipping Man; Michael Shannon, Mistakes Were Made; and Jeremy Strong, The Coward.

Leading actress nominees are Tracee Chimo, Bachelorette; Edie Falco, This Wide Night; Elizabeth Marvel, The Little Foxes; Laurie Metcalf, The Other Place; and Michele Pawk, A Small Fire.

In the Outstanding Featured Actor category, nominees include Michael Chernus, In the Wake; Noah Galvin, The Burnt Part Boys; David Patrick Kelly, When I Come to Die; David Margulies, After the Revolution; and Thomas Sadoski, Other Desert Cities.

Nominated for Outstanding Featured Actress are Laura Heisler, Kin; Linda Lavin, Other Desert Cities; Deirdre O’Connell, In the Wake; Kristen Schaal, The Coward; and Lois Smith, After the Revolution.

Solo show nominees are Mike Birbiglia’s My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend and Daniel Beaty’s Through the Night. Elevator Repair Service’s Gatz, produced by The Public Theater, is the only nominee in the Outstanding Alternative Theatrical Experience category.

Nominated for Outstanding Revival are Signature Theatre Company’s production of Tony Kushner’s Angels in America; Atlantic Theater Company’s staging of Harold Pinter’s The Collection & A Kind of Alaska; New York Theatre Workshop’s production of Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes; Pearl Theatre Company’s production of Moliere’s The Misanthrope; and Classic Stage Company’s production of Anton Chekhov’s Three Sisters.

Joe Mantello received two directing nominations, for Other Desert Cities and The Other Place, with other nominated directors including John Collins, Gatz; Anne Kauffman, This Wide Night; and Leigh Silverman, In the Wake.

Choreography nominations were given to Tracy Bersley, The Witch of Edmonton; Steven Hoggett, Peter and the Starcatcher; Danny Mefford, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson; Annie-B Parson, Orlando; and Gail Pennington Crutchfield, Freckleface Strawberry.

Nominated designers include Betsy Adams, Mark Barton, Gabriel Berry, Jennifer Caprio, Mikhail Fiksel, Matt Frey, Rachel Hauck, Jesse Klug, Anna Louizos, Cait O’Connor, Mic Pool, Emily Rebholz, Ben Stanton, Jan Versweyveld, Donyale Werle, Jon Weston, Ben Williams, and David Zinn.

Manhattan Theatre Club’s artistic director Lynn Meadow will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, while lawyer Gary Glaser has been named the recipient of the inaugural Service to Off-Broadway Award.

This year’s ceremony will benefit The Actors Fund.
