The Collegiate Chorale presented a two-act concert version of Ricky Ian Gordon and Michael Korie’s opera The Grapes of Wrath, based on the novel by John Steinbeck, on Monday, March 22 at Carnegie Hall. The concert was conducted by Ted Sperling and directed by Eric Simonson.

Academy Award winner Jane Fonda acted as the evening’s narrator. The opera starred Victoria Clark (Ma Joad), Christine Ebersole (Mae), Elizabeth Futral (Rose of Sharon), Nathan Gunn (Tom Joad), Peter Halverson (Pa Joad) Don McComb (Grampa), Rochelle Nelson (Gramma), Sean Panikkar (Jim Casy), Steven Pasquale (Al Joad), Stephen Powell (Uncle John), Andrew Wilkowske (Noah Joad), Matthew Worth (Connie Rivers), Madelyn Gunn (Ruthie Joad), and Alex Schwartz (Winfield Joad), along with the Collegiate Chorale.

The production’s creative team included Frances Aronson (lighting), Wendall K. Harrington (projections), Scott Lehrer (sound), and Jacob Climer (costumes).
