Tony nominee Patrick Stewart will star as Robert in the Broadway premiere of David Mamet’s A Life in the Theatre, which as previously announced will be presented this fall under the direction of Neil Pepe.

Mamet’s play focuses on the relationship between a young actor and his older mentor. Rehearsals for the production will begin August 23.

Stewart received a Tony nomination for playing the title role in the 2008 production of Macbeth, and won a 2009 Olivier Award for his performance as Claudius and The Ghost in the RSC’s Hamlet. He will next be seen on stage at The Chichester Festival Theatre in Edward Bond’s Bingo: Scenes of Money and Death. His many film and television credits include playing Professor Xavier in the X-Men series of films and Captain Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation.
