Eric Woolfson’s musical, Poe will receive both a CD and a DVD of its world premiere showcase performance at Abbey Road Studios, to be released on April 6.

Woolfson, who passed away in December 2009 at the age of 64, was a co-founder of the Alan Parsons Project. He wrote the musicals Gaudi (1993), Gambler (1996), and Dancing Shadows (2007), which have been produced in Europe and Asia, but not yet in the United States. Poe is his final work for the musical theater, and is about the famed writer Edgar Allan Poe, and includes songs about his celebrated works “The Bells”, “The Murders in the Rue Morgue,” and “The Pit and the Pendulum.”

Steve Balsamo portrays Poe on both recordings. The CD features a 40 piece orchestra and 80 strong choir, with musicians including John Parricelli, Laurence Cottle, Simon Chamberlain, and Ralph Salmins. The DVD was recorded on a specially constructed set, with an audience of 300. In addition to Balsamo, the cast for the DVD includes Juliet Caton and David Burt.
