John Adams, Joshua Bell, Yo-Yo Ma, Mark Morris and More Set for Mostly Mozart Festival

Lincoln Center has announced the line-up for the 2009 Mostly Mozart Festival, to run July 28-August 22.

Among the festival’s highlights will be the New York premiere of artist-in-residence John Adams’ opera/oratario A Flowering Tree, August 13, 14 and 16 at the Rose Theater. Co-authored and directed by Peter Sellars, the work is based on a southern Indian folktale and is inspired by Mozart’s The Magic Flute. The performances, to be conducted by Adams, will feature the Schola Cantorum de Venezuela Choir and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s.

The festival will also present the New York premieres of two dance works by the Mark Morris Dance Group, Empire Garden and Visitation, to run August 19-22 at the Rose Theater. The works will feature guest artists Yo-Yo Ma, Emanuel Ax, and Colin Jacobsen.

Violinist Joshua Bell will join Louis Langree and the Mostly Mozart Orchestra for two performances in Avery Fisher Hall on August 11 and 12, performing works by Mendelssohn, Haydn, and Mozart; the August 12 performance will be broadcast as part of PBS’ Live from Lincoln Center series.

Other participating artists in the festival will include Piotr Anderszewski, Leif Ove Andsnes, Alice Coote, Stefan Vladar, Jeffrey Kahane, Carolyn Sampson, Matthew Polenzani, Peter Rose, Toby Spence, Lawrence DiBello, Claire-Marie LeGuay, Karen Cargill, Nicholas Angelich, Michael Collins, Simone Dinnerstein, and the Emerson String Quartet.
