Downtown Urban Theater Festival to Return to HERE Arts Center in May

The Downtown Urban Theater Festival (DUTF) will be presented at HERE Arts Center, May 6-16, celebrating its seventh season with twelve new works by playwrights from across the U.S.

DUTF was founded as a small grass roots effort to help revitalize the NYC downtown arts scene, which was experiencing a severe downturn due to the World Trade Center disaster. The festival’s first two years were presented at HERE, with other former venues including the Abrons Arts Center and Cherry Lane Theatre.

Featured works in the 2009 festival will include Life Could Be Un Sueno by Lina Sarrello, Man Up by Carlos Andrés Gómez, A Boy Called Noise by Julia Steele Allen, Alternate Side Street Parking (a love story in four seasons) by Dina Laura, The King’s Mistress by Patricia Ione Lloyd, Solo Man Watusi by Mel Nieves, Where My Girls At? by Micia Mosely, America by Kim Yaged, T.A.B. by Susan H. Pak, Right to Return by Pamela Sneed, Vi Degees by Kash Goins, and Representa! by Paul S. Flores and Julio Cardenas.
