New York City Opera has announced the lineup of pieces that will be included in its VOX Contemporary American Opera Lab, to run April 30 – May 1, to the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. Now in its eleventh year, this two-day event showcases new American operas from both emerging and established composers and librettists in readings that are free and open to the public.

Eight operas which have never been performed will be offered, including Anthony Davis’ A Revolution of Forms, which he has co-composed with Dafnis Prieto and which has a libretto by Alma Guillermprieto and Charles Koppelman. The other unproduced pieces include Du Yun’s Zolle, Missy Mazzoli’s Song from the Uproar, Scott Davenport Richards’ A Star Across the Ocean, David T. Little and Royce Vavrek’s Dog Days, Brian Current and Anton Piatigorsky’s Inventory, Julian Wachner and Alexis Nouss’ Evangeline Revisited, and Paola Prestini’s Oceanic Verses. This last piece will feature soprano Hila Plitmann and Italian folk singer Claudio Prima. Casting for the other works will be announced at a later date.

In addition, the Festival will offer excerpts from Daniel Crozier and Peter Krask’s With Blood, With Ink and Michael Gordon’s Acquanetta, two works which have received previous developmental performances.

Programming will also include two panel discussions, Writing for the Voice (April 30) and Why Write an Opera? (May 30), which will feature the composers featured in the Festival and be moderated by Beth Morrison and George Steel, respectively.
