Molly Ringwald will headline the national tour of Sweet Charity, to be launched in California in September. Director Walter Bobbie and choreographer Wayne Cilento will repeat the duties they performed for the recent Broadway revival of the musical; additional casting and tour dates will be announced shortly.

Ringwald has starred on Broadway in Cabaret and Enchanted April, and Off-Broadway in Modern Orthodox and tick, tick …BOOM!. Her numerous film credits include The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, and Sixteen Candles.

The original Broadway production of Sweet Charity opened in 1966, starring Gwen Verdon. The 2005 production starred Christina Applegate and Denis O’Hare; it received three Tony Award nominations, including Best Revival of a Musical.
