The Donmar Warehouse’s production of John Logan’s Red will begin a 15-week run at Broadway’s Golden Theater on March 11, with an official opening on April 1.

Michael Grandage directs the production, which stars Alfred Molina, who plays artist Mark Rothko, and Eddie Redmayne. The production is currently playing in London.

The play is set in 1958 when Rothko received the art world’s largest commission to create a series of murals for The Four Seasons restaurant in the new Seagram building on Park Avenue. Under the watchful gaze of his young assistant, Ken (Redmayne) and the threatening presence of a new generation of artists, Rothko faces his greatest challenge yet: to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting.

The production is designed by Christopher Oram, with lighting design by Neil Austin. The composer and sound designer is Adam Cork.

Molina’s previous Broadway credits include Fiddler on the Roof and Art. He can currently be seen in the film An Education.
